The Western Maryland RC&D has developed a long term partnership with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Power Plant Research Program to assist with the research for finding environmentally acceptable and beneficial uses of solid coal combustion by-products (CCBs). The support services provided to the PPRP is extensive and includes the staffing and laboratory facilities necessary for completing the tasks identified in this partnership agreement. Projects encompass environmental monitoring activities, mine restoration projects to address acid mine drainage and the evaluation of the potential beneficial uses of CCBs to mitigate environmental problems caused by coal mining in Western Maryland.
