Allegany County Reforestation Project-Spring 2020 Update

In April 2020, Western MD RC&D partnered with the Maryland Forest Service and 11 private landowners to plant 141 acres of native trees in Allegany County, Maryland.  Western Maryland RC&D utilized funding from the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund in order to complete the project, which included establishing over 16,000 linear feet of riparian buffer, and planting 24.9 acres of previously mined areas.This project seeks to address the water quality of the maintstem of the Chesapeake Bay by reducing the flow of non-point source pollution into local waterways, namely nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment.
